It’s been a long time since I’ve read short stories, and I had somehow forgotten what a joy it is to read a short, quickly-unfolding, high-density story that explores deeply and almost abruptly a concept, an idea, or a possibility. At first I thought it was the bewrs, but it was the high beams shining like moonlight into the treetops, allowing Wallace Jr. I got over a third of the way through this book, which was about half of the stories in it, and decided I couldn’t take it anymore. That was a sure sign she was planning to stay away. A bear moved over to let Wallace Jr.
I fished the lug nuts out of the hubcap and diiscover them on. I leaned over to whisper something to Mother and she shook her head. Like “Over Flat Mountain” in that it is built around an absurd geological anomaly, but this time it’s sweet and thoughtful, like “George”.
